Taruki means „roof rafter“ in Japanese, and as the name suggests, this collection of coffee tables and shelves is inspired by traditional Japanese roof joinery. The idea was to reinterpret traditional wood joinery and showcase its beauty through an inset smoked glass top, letting the often hidden structure of a table/shelf be the key visual element.
タルキとは日本の伝統的な建築に用いられる「屋根の垂木」を意味し、その名の通り、このコーヒーテーブルとシェルフのコレクションは、その屋根の構造からインスピレーションを得ています。木の接合部を再解釈し、ガラスの天板をはめ込むことで、その美しさを際立たせ、テーブルやシェルフの隠されがちな構造を重要なデザインとして見せることを考えました。
